Personal Stylist in Barcelona

My Story

Why fashion feels like my first language

Hi, I’m Melissa!

I was born in Colombia, raised in the Texas, and fashion has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mother was a fashion designer who created gowns for Miss Colombia pageant contestants, and from a young age, I was mesmerized by her work, the fabrics, the fittings, and the magic that happened when a woman slipped into a dress made just for her.

That early exposure sparked something in me: a deep appreciation for how clothing can empower, express, and tell a story.

From Corporate Fashion to Creative Freedom

That love of fashion led me to a long and rewarding career with Gap Inc., where I spent nearly 15 years growing through the ranks to become a Store Manager, and eventually a Visual Merchandiser. I led teams, developed creative strategies for store visuals, and oversaw product storytelling across multiple locations, all while mentoring others who shared my passion.

I also had the opportunity to create and host in-store styling and community events, connecting customers with trends in an inspiring, approachable way.

After years in the corporate world, I wanted a more personal connection to fashion. I studied fashion design to understand the craft behind the clothes and later became a personal stylist – first in Houston and then as a Lead Stylist at Stitch Fix, helping clients rediscover confidence and authenticity through their style.

Falling in love with Barcelona

In 2020, I took a leap of faith and moved to Barcelona, a city that instantly captured my heart with its creativity, culture, and effortless sense of style.

As I explored its narrow streets and open-air markets, I discovered a new side of fashion: one rooted in sustainability, individuality, and artistry. I became passionate about vintage and secondhand treasures and the local designers creating timeless, conscious pieces. Before long, I was introducing friends to my favorite spots, and that passion soon grew into something much bigger.

That’s how The Barcelona Stylist was born. My mission is to connect people with a more mindful approach to fashion, one that celebrates individuality, supports local talent, and promotes sustainability without sacrificing style. Through personal styling sessions, tailored vintage shopping tours, and creative workshops, I help clients look incredible, feel confident, and shop in a way that supports something bigger.

A Glimpse Beyond Fashion

Today, I call Barcelona home. I live here with my amazing French boyfriend (my biggest supporter) and our mini-dachshund, who brings endless joy (and a bit of chaos) to our little family.

This city, my work, and the people I meet through it all have become a reflection of what I value most: connection, creativity, and confidence.

When I’m not styling clients or exploring hidden boutiques, you’ll probably find me dressed up (often a little overdressed) heading to one of my favorite cafés with friends or trying a new spot from Barcelona’s ever-evolving food scene. I’m a big believer that fashion should be fun, so if you’re looking for someone serious and stoic, I’m not her. I’m usually laughing, making others laugh, and finding joy in the little things that make life (and style) feel effortless and exciting.

Fashion has always been my way of connecting with people and helping them see their best selves. My goal as a personal stylist in Barcelona is to help you simplify your wardrobe, shop with intention, and find joy in expressing who you are, confidently, playfully, and authentically.
